Dear Colleague,

 

            I hope the New Year had started for you with a bang. ACRSI in its constant mission to achieve new heights, and at the same time to encourage scientific activities to benefits its members, continues to march forward. I am happy to say that 2005 saw 2 successful Instructional Courses being conducted at Pune and Lucknow and a very successful National Mid Term Conference being held at Sanjay Gandhi Post- Graduate Institute at Lucknow. The Association has also conducted CME and Workshops in addition to the Instructional Courses and National Conference, throughout the country. If any of you, along with your local surgical body or Institution, wishes to conduct a CME or a workshop in colo rectal surgery, then you may write to me for the same.

 

            The Hon. Secretary’s reports were circulated to you in December where details of the activities of ACRSI for 2005 were mentioned. I am enclosing a membership form of the Association. I request you to enroll at least one new member. This form could be photocopied in case you are able to enroll more members.

“ Disease of Colon and Rectum” ( DCR) a journal published by the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons has approached ACRSI & asked us whether members of ACRSI would be interested in subscribing to their journal. They have been informed that the journal would have to be made available to us at a much lower cost. To determine exactly how many members for ACRSI are interested in subscribing (since the cost would depend on that), I request you to kindly write to me (post or Email) in the following format:

Since no suitable applications were received for Ethicon Visiting Professorship and Dr.R.K.Menda Oration for the year 2006, fresh applications are invited for the same. The guidelines are as follows:

 

Dr. R. K. Menda Oration – 2006 & 2007.

Guidelines

  1. The nomination should be sponsored by at least 2 life members of ACRSI
  2. The speaker should preferably be a member of ACRSI & an Eminent Surgeon & the oration must be based on original work.
  3. The subject of the oration must relate to Colorectal Surgery. Alternatively the subject may be of a philosophical nature again with a background of colorectal surgery.
  4. The orator shall be selected by the committee appointed by the Association for this purpose, from among the nominations received.
  5. The following information should be sent along with the nomination.

a)      Biodata ( professional status & particulars of outstanding work with list of publications, research articles, books, etc)

b)     Whether the work has been original & if so, whether it was done in collaboration with others.

c)      The subject of the oration

d)     4 copies of the full text of the oration with publications relevant to the subject.

e)     Any awards/fellowships received during the last 10 years from ASI or ACRSI & give details of the same.

f)       Nominee’s service to ACRSI/ ASI.

 

  1. Nominations received for a particular year will be considered only for that year and it will not be considered for the subsequent years.
  2. A Plaque will be given during the Annual Conference.
  3. Last day for receiving nominations is 31st May, 2006 for the year 2006 & July 31st , 2006 for the year 2007.
  4. The oration will be awarded during the annual conference of ASICON in the sectional programme of ACRSI in Dec, 2006 /2007.

 

Ethicon Visiting Professorship of ACRSI-2005 & 2006.

Application form

Applications are invited for the Ethicon Visiting Professorship for the year 2006 & 2007.

  1. This fellowship is meant to be utilized only within our country.
  2. The application should contain a complete biodata of the candidate, highlighting the contributions made by him/her to teaching & research in the field of colorectal surgery.
  3. The professorship is primarily intended to promote surgical learning in any medical centre in the country by the visit of an active eminent member of ACRSI.
  4. The visiting professor should be a senior member of the association & visit non teaching hospitals preferably in rural areas, where minimum facilities are available, particularly where there is no medical college.
  5. He/She should spend a minimum of ten days for conducting operations & giving lectures, demonstrations etc. in the field of colorectal surgery.
  6. He should complete his visit before the 30th September 2006 for the year 2006 and 30th June 2007 for the year 2007 & submit his report to the Hon. Secretary of ACRSI along with a certificate from the Head of the Institution(s) before 30th October, 2006 for the year 2006 & 31st July 2007 for the year 2007.
  7. The programme of the visit has to be finalized by mutual consultation between the visiting professor & the head of the institution to be visited by him.
  8. 4 copies of the application along with relevant enclosures should reach the Hon. Secretary of ACRSI by 31st May, 2006 for the year 2006 & 31st July 2007 for the year 2007.
  9. The Selection of candidate would be done by a duly appointed committee of the ACRSI & its decision shall be final & binding.
  10. A sum of Rs. 10,000/- ( Rs. Ten thousand only) along with a plaque would be presented to the Visiting Professor during the Sectional Programme of ACRSI during ASICON in December 2006/2007 during which a brief presentation of 10 minutes will have to be made by the Visiting Professor regarding his visit.

 

Future activities:

            It gives me great pleasure to inform you that ACRSI will shortly be starting 2 new traveling fellowships in India & at least 1 new traveling fellowship in a reputed Institution abroad.

India has been given the honor to host the Asian federation of Coloproctology Congress in 2009. ACRSI has decided to host this in Delhi under the leadership of Dr. Vijay Arora. We would welcome suggestions from members to make this a memorable event.
